SAHIWAL: The woman who was set on fire by her husband at Malka Hans two days back succumbed to her burns in the Mayo Hospital, Lahore, on Monday.

Yasmin Bibi, a resident of Chak 95, had contracted a court marriage with Muhammad Shoaib of Malka Hans five years back. They were living in a separate house. Recently, differences between the couple appeared over family issues. Muhammad Yousaf, the paternal uncle of Yasmin, said Yasmin would often complain of physical violence and abuse by Shoaib. On Saturday, the couple again quarreled with each other. In the evening, Shoaib sprinkled her with petrol as she was sleeping and set her on fire.

The neighbours shifted Yasmin to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ), Pakpattan, but she was referred to the Burn Unit of the Mayo Hospital, Lahore, because of her serious condition. Yasmin died in hospital on Monday.

Malka Hans police registered murder FIR against the suspect on complaint of Yousaf.

District Police Officer Mariya Mahmood told the media the suspect had been arrested by the police.

KILLED: A teenage boy was stabbed to death by his friend over a minor dispute at Chak 115/9-L.

Ali Awais, 17, a resident of Chak 117/9-L, Kameer, along with his cousins, Imran and Muhammad Aleem, went to pay a visit to the shrine of Khawaja Shah Silani Chak 115/9-L. There they met their other friend, Shan. Some dispute emerged between Awais and Shan and they started using foul language against each other before scuffling. Shan got infuriated and stabbed Awais with a knife. Awais died on spot while Shan escaped from scene.

Kameer police registered a case on compliant of Awais’s father, Khan Muhammad, and arrested the suspect.

GANG: City Police, Sahiwal, busted a gang involved in motorcycle snatching and seized five motorcycles from them besides weapons.

Station House Officer Muhammad Riaz said the Maazoo gang had snatched motorcycles from the city locality and was active in the area for the last six months. The police arrested four members of the gang, namely its leader Maaz Ilyas, Yaroo, Shahzad and Hamza.
