DERA GHAZI KHAN: At least 19 people died and more than 30 others were injured when two passenger buses collided head on with each other near Ghazi Ghat on Sunday.

According to Rescue 1122 sources, a Multan-bound passenger bus collided with a Karachi-bound bus coming from opposite direction near Ghazi Ghat.

As a result, 19 people were killed and over 30 injured, they said.

AP news agency quoted a police officer as saying that both buses were speeding when they collided. He added that most of the victims, including women and children, were from one extended family travelling from Dera Ghazi Khan to Multan.

The sources said the injured were shifted to Ghazi Khan Teaching Hos­pital and Medical College where an emergency was declared.

The hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Gull said that at least eight of the injured passengers were in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, taking notice of the accident, directed the district administration to ensure provision of all facilities to the injured and the families of the deceased.
