KARACHI: With hat-trick under her belt, favourite unknown pedigree mare Winter obliged all and sundry by registering a fabulous three-length victory over bay horse Shan-e-Kaif to lift the Glorious Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.

With rider Sohail Ahmed on her back, the victorious horse presented owners Zainab Ali and Aariz Nawaz and trainer Mohammad Sharif with fourth straight victory with her eye-catching performance.

The combined scale order II, III and IV Glorious Cup run over four-and-a-half furlongs was also the days’ feature event.

Another significant thing of Winter’s successes is that rider Sohail had piloted her home on all the four occasions.

Shan-e-Kaif’s stable-mate Salam-e-Kaif seized third place falling 11 lengths behind while Ghazi Gift formerly Zoaq, completed the frame half-a-length away among nine starters.

Another unknown pedigree dark bay horse Parachuter returned to winning ways after a layoff by capturing the fourth and last race which was also the supporting event.

It is pertinent to mention that victory had eluded Parachuter after he opened his account on July 28.

Favourite Parachuter atoned for successive loses by galloping to a two-length success over mare Lovely Baby. Duran Duran and Believe Me followed the two in same order. At the outset, yet another unknown pedigree chestnut horse Pocket Power kept his winning run intact when edged debutant mare Killing Eyes by distance in a close finish to claim the opening race.

Murad Queen was placed third, beaten by a distance with another debutant Pick Power, stable-mate of Pocket Power, occupying the fourth slot.

Meanwhile, in the only upset, long shot dark bay horse Black Smoke lowered the colours of favourite Mamoon by three-quarter-of-a-length to pick up spoils of the second race.
