SWABI: The British-era Dak Bungalow in Topi city is going to be demolished to erect a new structure at its place as auction of the building material was held here on Wednesday.

The building is situated in the heart of Topi city near Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology.

The building was used as a guest house exclusively for the British-era employees and officers.

Local elders recalled that keeping importance of the region, the British had established Dak Bungalow in Topi area, and later the building was given to police in 1962, where Topi police station was established.

The land for the building spread over three kanals was donated by Islamia College, Peshawar, founder Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum.

It is the second historical building to be demolished in the district. Earlier, building of government higher secondary school in Topi city was also demolished a few years back.

It has been learnt that Counter-Terrorism Department, Peshawar, SSP Sajjad Khan, who also worked as Swabi DPO, has played a key role in arranging funds for reconstruction of new building.
