LAHORE: A small but competitive card of six races with a thrust of unknown pedigree horses will be seen in action during the Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

Except for the feature and the supporting event, attracting less than double figure runners, the other events are heavily subscribed with unknown pedigree horses loaded with a dozen or more runners.

A quartet of the runners in each race seems to be on chance as a result a keen contest is expected for the equine sports connoisseurs’ delight.

The events are so made to include a mixture of inconsistent runners besides some newer ones being conditioned for opening their account on the track with a success. There are those, who are taking part after weeks’ absence. This all makes the search for winner a difficult task for punters, because they will be groping in the dark.

Two races will be gone over 900 metres while four races will be run over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres.

The feature event, the Lorina Plate class VII division II and III to be gone over 1,000 metres has a tiny field of seven runners and none of them being a consistent performer which makes the race an open affair. On chance are top weight colt Mitwa, Fancy Boy, Power of Dream and Sayban-e-Bhakkar.

The supporting event, the Lorina Plate class VII division III to be gone over 1,000 metres has nine runners. Top weight filly Helena, has come down considerably in the handicap, which if she runs according to her bloodline credential, she should break her maiden’s duck after 14-futile attempts to date.

This daughter of famous USA sire, Assassi from Northern Dancer bloodline has so far kept the owner and the breeder finger crossed by her dismal show. It may be mentioned here that Assassi is among top rated sires of the country, and has bred multiple classic stake winners including the Pakistan Derby. When the owner purchased Helena, he must have put very high hopes on the filly.

The first race will be held at 2.30pm.
