Kubra Khan's loving her time in Pakistan.

The British-Pakistani actor in conversation with BBC's Haroon Rashid said that initially she was skeptical about coming to the country but as soon as got here, she was pleasantly surprised.

"Life of a woman in Pakistan is not half as bad as it's shown on TV," said Kubra. "I think my perceptions changed the minute I stepped into Pakistan because I spent my entire life here [in UK] so I always thought that 'Oh Pakistan, it will be like close-minded people.' I did think that, I'm going to be honest."

However, it didn't take long for her to see otherwise. "I was a little judgmental but when I got here everyone was so much more modern, everyone was open-minded."

The star who made her film debut in 2014 with Na Maloom Afraad has two projects set to release this Eid; Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 and Parwaaz Hai Junoon.

"There was a sense of achievement when I was doing the movies. It was a lot more stressful when I found out they were releasing on Eid together. I was like, 'No, why? What am I going to do? How am I going to promote?' But of course there are three movies coming out and two of them are my movies. I am proud, my mother's very proud and she's hardly ever proud of me."

When asked what she misses about the UK, she replies: "You know you miss UK when you start missing the tubes and I hated the tubes, but now I'm like ' I miss the tubes'..."

Kubra is famously known for her role in TV serial Sang-e-Mar Marand Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

Our tv dramas project such a terrible picture of our women

How about showing life of Pakistani women that is good, not just talking about it , will help with the desperate, clinging, crying women we see in dramas!

Kubra Khan may be right. In the context of the Pakistan culture, women may be having an appropriate life style. I go to Pakistan occasionally , particularly to have a particular type of kebabs, you get on Buns Road, Karachi. however I resent stifling emotionally women by cultural over protectiveness of the Pakistani men.

I suppose it depends in which circles one mixes - obviously not all Pakistani women face the same lives. Here on Dawn I read about forced marriages, child brides, children sold into servitude by their parents, millions receiving no education, poor healthcare, "honour killings", men preventing their female family members from voting, etc etc etc Doesn't sound very open minded to me
