LAHORE: Thoroughbred bay filly Sparking landed the feature event in a brilliant style during the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting here at the floodlit Racecourse on Sunday.

A sizeable gathering of connoisseurs of the equine sports braved the muggy weather to watch the races.

The Rashid Latif-trained fSparking was guided by jockey Mohammad Hanif to an easy seven lengths victory at 70-100 odd to register her second success with one second in 14 outings for owner Khawaja M. Atif in this race for class VI horses.

The second place went to bay horse Carry On Jutta with bay filly Rashk-e-Qamar third with filly Sublime fourth in the last race which contested over 1,100 metres and competed by 11 acceptors after the last-minute withdrawal of colt Atlantis.

Unknown chestnut filly Bajwa Choice coasted home to a magnificent victory in the supporting event to complete a hat-trick of wins for owner Mohammad Ashraf and trainer Ghulam Abbas Shah. Jockey Ali Raza rode the winner.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards stopped the entries of chestnut horse Janab for four race-days after being unsatisfied with his performance in the second race in which he finished off the frame.

The start of the day’s programme was considerably delayed when grey mare Dubai Marina, who was installed as firm favourite, had a fall while being boxed in the starting stall. On the request of owner Mian Hamid Mahmood, the mare was withdrawn.

Later filly Push The Limits was also withdrawn on owner’s request leaving just seven runners in the race for Maidens in Class VII Division V run over 800 metres. The race was won by rank outsider mare Dancing Baby, which is owned by K.A. Ahmed and trained by Nadeem Raza Khan.

Five favourite horses won in a card of seven races gone through smoothly and enjoyed by the racing fans. The favourites to win were Tiger Jet (second race), Uzair Prince (thirdd race), Golra Pride (fourth race), Satpara (fifth race) and Sparking (seventh race).
