UPPER DIR: A constable of special police force was killed and another injured in an exchange of fire following a raid on a hideout of a proclaimed offender in Merashpati area near the Dir town here on Monday.

Police said they had a tip-off about presence of a PO named Delaram, resident of Merashapati, in his house. They said police personnel raided his hideout, but the outlaw opened fire.

The sources said two constables were injured during an ensuring exchange of fire between the outlaw and the personnel.

One of the injured policemen identified as Zahir Shah alias Chishti died while being shifted to the district headquarters hospital, Dir. The sources said the PO succeeded in escaping the area.

DPO Mian Naseeb Jan said the police had cordoned off the area and operation for arrest of the PO continued. Later, the funeral prayers of the deceased were offered at the district police lines.
