LAHORE: A man was killed when a stray bullet hit him during a wedding ceremony in Shahdara on Sunday.

Police said Jawad Qureshi had come to attend a wedding ceremony in Shahdara where some of the participants resorted to aerial firing in jubilation. Mr Qureshi suffered stray bullet injuries and was taken to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

A police team reached the spot on information, removed the body to morgue for autopsy, collected forensic evidence from crime scene and recorded statements of the eyewitnesses.

Police said they were investigating the matter whether it was a murder or an incident of death due to stray bullet.

FOUND DEAD: A 19-year-old student was recovered dead under mysterious circumstances in a private university hostel on Sunday.

Police said Shahbaz Haider of Mian Channu was studying at a private university in Raiwind and was living in its hostel. They said the student did not turn up for his class for two days and his friend reported the matter to them. Police reached the hostel and found the student dead in his room.

Police later shifted the body to morgue for autopsy and informed his family who live abroad. Police said according to initial investigation the student had used drugs.
