LAHORE: There are over 5.2 million eligible voters in the provincial capital who can exercise their right to franchise in the upcoming general election, reveals the voters’ data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) here on Thursday.

Of them more than 2.9 million are male and around 2.3m female voters who will elect 14 National Assembly and 30 Punjab Assembly members from Lahore.

In terms of number of voters, the largest National Assembly constituency in Lahore is NA-124 (mostly comprising the Walled City and the areas up to the river Ravi) which comprises 522,226 voters, while NA-130 is the runner-up with a tally of 472,533 voters.

Whereas NA-135 (which comprises most areas of the old NA-121) is the smallest constituency with 243,689 votes, less than half of the NA-124.

Provincial Assembly seat PP-149 contains maximum voters – 268,492 – while PP-170 has the minimum voter congestion with a tally of 93,745.

They will elect 14 NA and 30 PA members

Another interesting aspect is that the constituencies which form centre and or north of the Lahore district (NA-123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128) are larger in terms of number of voters as these contain around 400,000 votes each, while those lying in the southern part (NA-134, 135, 136) have comparatively less number of votes, below the 300,000 mark.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has handed over draft lists of polling stations to all returning officers (ROs). The ROs will scrutinise the lists and then make theses public after necessary amendments.

The top electoral watchdog says the voters may submit their objections and/or suggestions regarding their respective polling stations with the district returning officers, who will adjudicate the pleas and finalise the polling station lists.

The Election Commission says it has also uploaded the polling station lists on its website for transparency purposes under section 59(1) of the election laws.
