PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Development Department on Tuesday directed the department to suspend the tehsil municipal officer Lakki Marwat for irregularities in development schemes.

The committee issued directives in light of the recommendations of a technical committee formed by the local government department to probe the allegations.

The standing committee’s meeting was chaired by leader of the opposition Maulana Lutfur Rehman and attended by MPAs Quban Khan, Sardar Hussain Babak and Rashida Rifat.

The issue of irregularities was raised by JUI-F MPA Noor Saleem in the assembly which was later on referred by the house to the standing committee for a detailed discussion.

“It is evident that in respect of 2nd scheme (construction of water tanks) the TMA staff deviated from approved PC-1 without taking sanction from the competent forum and without consulting the MPA concerned and provided pre-cast slab on water tanks, thus reducing the number of water tanks from 18 to 12,” reads the recommendation of the inquiry committee.
