TAXILA: Police celebrated the marriage of a martyred colleague’s daughter in Hassanabdal on Sunday.

Constable Afreez Khan died during a shootout with outlaws in Burhan in Hassanabdal police area in 1999.

The marriage procession of the martyred policeman’s daughter was provided a VIP protocol.

The decision to celebrate the marriage differently was taken by District Police Officer Attock Ibadat Nisar after the welfare wing of the police received an application from her family seeking a marriage grant for the deceased official. The participants of the procession were amazed when they saw policemen showering petals on the marriage procession.

DPO Nisar, Deputy Commissioner Attock Rana Akbar Hayat, Assistant Commissioner Hassanabdal Jannat Hussain Nekokara and Subdivisional Police Officer Asif Bahadur attended the ceremony. Gifts were also given to the bride and bridegroom.

“It gives my family great pleasure to see the police participating in the marriage of my sister in such a manner,” Jawad Khan, son of late Afreez Khan, told newsmen.
