The LSAs this year were a desi affair and they got us thinking... does eastern wear on the red carpet only translate to shaadi joras?

Mahira Khan, who chose a slinky black dress at the awards last year, wore bridals from Elan and Faraz Manan this time around. Hamza stayed true to his roots with his staple black shalwar kameez and Rabia Butt was all black errything in a Faraz Manan sari.

But... did the celebs desi style add more oomph to the red carpet or did they look out-of-place? Here's what we think.

Sajal Aly

Sajal Aly usually stays under the radar when it comes to red carpet looks. Last night, however, the actor chose to wear a bridal to the awards with the works (notice the jhumkas?). Sajal's white peshwas style ensemble from IVY Bridals was sweet and simple but it made her look like she was heading straight to a dholki after - we wish she'd wear something more fun and age-appropriate to award shows.

Urwa Hocane

Is it a coat? Is it a kameez? Is it a dress?

We're trying hard to figure out Urwa was wearing last night... but.we.just.don't.know.what.it.is.

The Punjab Nahi Jaungi star wore a white embellished custom-made Mohsin Naveed Ranjha piece and we're just speechless. What is it even?

Mawra Hocane

In a first, Mawra ditched her princess-y ball gown look and chose a Manish Malhotra lehenga choli. Did it win us over? No. Could she have gotten rid of the drape? Yes.

But we give her props for trying something new.

Mahira Khan

Mahira Khan was an absolute stunner last year at the LSAs, we're afraid we can't say the same this time though. The Faraz Manan gharara belongs at a wedding, not the red carpet and the white Elan sari with the cape just did not work. Maybe if she let her luscious locks loose, we'd have spared her.

Sorry Mahira, we expect a lot from you in the style department.

Hamza Ali Abbasi

He swore to only wear black to award shows and while he has stayed true to that promise the Lahore cold demanded a scarf and well, he went with it.

Meera

This Saadia Mirza sari has too much going on; the silk, the embellishments don't work on Meera. Less is (always) more. We hope the veteran actor keeps that in mind for next time.

Amna Ilyas

Amna Ilyas has a slender frame and long legs, had she chosen anything to accentuate her figure, we bet we would've loved it. But this Fahad Hussayn bridal didn't belong at the awards and was a misfit.

HSY

Oh look who got creative with a sherwani. HSY added a surprise element to his look at the LSAs with some gold embroidery at the back.

Rabia Butt

Rabia Butt's Faraz Manan sari at the LSAs is quite reminiscent of Deepika Padukone's sheer black Sabyasachi sari. Oops. The model could've perhaps worn more statement earrings or rings to complement the sari; the straight hair and tiny emerald studs did no favours to the dress.

Zhalay Sarhadi

Another bridal. Sigh. Zhalay wearing this Shamaeel Ansari number reminds us of weddings in 2014. It's time to update that wardrobe.

Uzma Hassan

The Arth star has a love for saris, and this mustard Wasim Khan had so much potential if only it didn't drown her and make her look twice her age. The bun was also a bad idea. Tsk.

Hadiqa Kiani

One to always dress young and hip, Hadiqa Kiani failed to impress last night. The grey shalwar kameez made the singer look old and frumpy; the loose pants are ill-fitted, the neckline gives her no breathing space and the tie-up around the waist fails to accentuate her curves.

We’re quite disappointed by this ensemble.

Just realised that Hamza Ali Abbasi and HSY have earned themselves as 'DIVAS'. Also, it is not just the dressing but the whole LSA affair which is going rogue with time. The show has definitely lost its charm and credibility with time. And one just wonders why would they always give Mahira Khan an award every time. She was awful in Verna, admit it. Uzma Hassan was commendable performer in the category.

I think Uzma is looking fabulous. She was definitely one of the best dressed celebs. She was styled by Iffat omer.

Elegance is not wholsome without modesty. Which is what desi look is, being modest. One doesn't have to reveal the whole back in order to be accepted. Sajal Aly on the ball. MashaAllah.

Horribly written opinion piece that does not even accurately detail the dresses. Hated how images has bashed all these celebrities who tried out eastern looks. The only phrase repeatedly used in the article to explain the hate is basically 'bridals don't belong on the red carpet' Why? Who said that Pakistani Red Carpet Fashion cannot include bridals. Contrary to images bashfest which feels like it's been written by a teenager who uses a lot of Twitter (read about the deatails of Urwa Hocane's look) instead of a fashion journalist, generally people enjoyed the unique idea of displaying a bit of Pakistani Fashion and culture this year. Also jfyi, Sajjal looked Absolutely stunning in her outfit.

Mahira khan was the best dressed, her traditional, and classy, look was stunning!. Sajal, and other actresses looked great as well, Marva, looked cute, but her dressed had too much going on. The styling of most artists did not looked like wedding look,at all. The colors and the way the traditional ethnic style were perfect for the red carpet!

@Saad Rehman Mahira khan gave a intense, and spot on performance in Verna, which is a thought provoking current and hit film,it made profit. Mahira khan is a top, beautiful, talented, and educated actress of Pakistan, who has put pak on international stage. Learn to give respect to pak artists ,who are doing amazing work!

All the young talented actresses should be given attention a lot more than seniors who are very few. They always deliver more than senior actors. Yes agree Mahira Khan shouldn’t always be given award.

@Saad Rehman : You are very right. I fail to understand why Mahira is always the winner despite being just an ordinary next door girl?
