KARAK: The opposition Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl managed to topple the district naib nazim of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf retired Maj Sajjad Barakwal with the help of his party’s dissident councillors here on Sunday.

Six PTI councillors remained absent from the district council session called on Sunday to vote on a no-trust motion moved by JUI-F district councillor Maulana Naveedullah against PTI’s district naib nazim five days ago.

On Sunday, 24 councillors, including 11 from JUI-F, one from ANP, two independents and 10 from PTI, district nazim Umer Daraz among them, voted against the naib nazim to de-seat him.

Sources in JUI-F said now the party would elect its own naib nazim and his nomination would be finalised in a couple of days. They claimed that candidate for naib nazim slot would be brought with consensus. They dispelled the impression that there were rifts in the party ranks on nomination of the candidate for naib nazim.

The sources close to the disgruntled members of PTI claimed that they had secretly agreed with the JUI-F to topple the naib nazim as he was a hurdle to approval of the district budget.

Meanwhile, a young woman allegedly committed suicide in Dareshkel area in the limits of Khurram police station.

Police sources said on Sunday the woman, 20, whose name could not be ascertained instantly, was found hanging inside her house.

The police said autopsy report revealed that there were marks of violence on the body and both her legs were broken. The police registered case and started investigation.
