A traffic police sub-inspector was injured in firing by unidentified assailants in Karachi's Liaquatabad area on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Irfan Baloch said the traffic police official, Irshad, was patrolling near Gujjar Nala in Liaquatabad when he was shot.

The official signalled a motorbike to stop, but the assailants riding it opened fire on the police official. According to reports, the two men riding the bike also snatched the sub-inspector's weapon before fleeing.

Irshad was shot in the leg and shifted to a nearby hospital. His condition is out of danger, police said.

A contingent of police reached the site of the incident and is making efforts to chase the assailants.
