Aamir Khan, whose recent films Dangal and Secret Superstar focused on female empowerment, believes that creative people have an important role to play in changing mindsets regarding gender issues.

“I think sexual harassment is a very sad thing to happen to anyone, irrespective of what your sex is,” he said when asked about the Harvey Weinstein case.

“I understand that people are free to be romantically involved with whoever they want but you cannot pressure a person into being with you physically. It happens not only in films but in all walks of life and is very unfortunate,” shared Aamir, who's currently shooting for Thugs of Hindostan in Thailand.

His comments come after his Dangal co-star Zaira Wasim was molested on a flight Saturday night.

Aamir also revealed that he feels sexual harassment should not be looked into isolation as it's connected to larger issues of how gender roles have been defined in society: “It is this thinking of patriarchy that men are stronger or are more important that leads to various regressive practices. Sexual harassment is one of them."

The actor turned producer believes that artists can do their part in moulding public opinion.

“Creative people do have a role to play in showcasing men and women in a manner that influences people in the right way. I believe we have some sort of responsibility in that,” he shared, adding “I am hoping that things will change in the future for the better. It takes time both for the people and the society to change.”

It's evil, it should be punished at every level including the casting couch in the movie industry in the sub-continent, plus with what they show and promote on the silver screen and men women laugh at, why do you wonder?

Don't think it's going to be published, what with that these very stars define on the screen, yes, wealth, wine, women.

Good of such celebrities to speak up on this issue. There is no justification for sexual crimes!

That the incident is in line with the story line of 'Secret Superstar' is hard to miss. It is also very hard to believe that a Bollywood actor such as himself does not routinely harass starlets in exchange for roles. He is very likely a Harvey himself.

No one knew that until Aamir said so.
