RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Saturday issued notices to 19 dangerous structures in the city asking for them to be repaired, while the owners of 10 dangerous buildings were asked to demolish their structures immediately.

A senior RDA official told Dawn that the Soan Bus terminal building, steel works, a private hotel and a school near the Soan Bridge have been issued notices to demolish the buildings as soon as possible or else the RDA’s enforcement cell will have to take action.

He said that a survey conducted in the city last month to check dangerous buildings had recommended the demolition of 10 and repairs for 19 others.

Buildings near the banks of the Soan River were dangerous, the official said, and their owners had been asked to vacate them as soon as possible.

RDA spokesperson Hafiz Irfan confirmed that the authority conducted a survey and issued notices to owners of dangerous buildings following the survey report.

He said if owners do not vacate or demolish the buildings, the RDA would take action under the law.
