MARDAN: Police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf member of district council from the court premises after additional district judge, Mardan, cancelled his application for bail before arrest here on Thursday.

The councillor, identified as Sabirur Rehman, had a few days ago allegedly slapped a head teacher named Mohammad Saeed of government middle school, Kandhary, after an exchange of harsh words over funds allocated for poor students and related documents.

After the incident, all the teachers of the school had locked the school building and held a protest demonstration against the councillor. Officials of Saddar police station had registered an FIR against the district councillor, but he then secured bail before arrest from a local court.

PTI’s provincial lawmaker Iftikhar Ali Mashwani made efforts for reconciliation between the two sides and presented reconciliation documents in the court on Thursday, but the judge rejected the papers. The police officials arrested the councillor from the court premises after cancellation of his bail.
