HYDERABAD: Assailing both Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) president Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Wednesday the proponents of development and change would do nothing worthwhile for the people of Sindh.

He was speaking at a public meeting held here that marked the 10th anniversary of the bombing in Karachi that claimed the lives of some 180 PPP workers who had greeted the late Benazir Bhutto upon her return to the country after a long exile.

Mr Bhutto-Zardari said his party would not let anyone thrust a system run by religious fanatics or novices on the country’s people.

“I am here to continue the mission espoused by my mother and grandparents,” he declared amidst thunderous applause.

About the changes made in law to elect Mr Sharif as head of the PML-N, the PPP chairman said: “They want to protect one individual and that’s why they introduced a law.”

Turning to Mr Khan, Mr Bhutto-Zardari said: “Then there is an inexperienced individual who doesn’t want to come out of the cricket ground and keeps hurling false accusations at others. Politics is not the business of allegations.”

He criticised both Mr Sharif and Mr Khan for suggesting that Sindh had been ruined. “Sindh can never be in ruins because it is blessed with the prayers of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.”

He added that he would never claim that everything was great in Sindh. There was always room for improvement.

The Sindh government, he said, had built bridges over the Indus to shorten the distances between settlements. He said that canals would be lined in the province.

He referred to the announcement made by the Indus River System Authority that there would be a 30 per cent water shortage in Rabi season. “I understand that there is a shortage of water but Sindh is always hit due to an injudicious distribution of water,” he said.

Other PPP leaders who spoke on the occasion included Syed Khursheed Shah, Nisar Khuhro, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar and Maula Bux Chandio.
