CHARSADDA: PTI district nazim and JI naib nazim survived the no-confidence motion after opposition members failed to show the required strength during a session of the district council convened here on Monday.

A three-party opposition alliance comprising QWP, JUI-F and ANP had tabled the no-confidence motion against district nazim Fahad Azam Khan and naib nazim Musawir Shah in the district council last Friday.

The Monday’s session started at 10am chaired by presiding officer Haji Hidayatullah. Assistant director local government along with other government functionaries was also present.

District nazim, naib nazim and PTI and JI members reached the house on schedule, but the opposition members didn’t turn up till 11:15am to participate in the voting process. The treasury benches repeatedly requested AD local government Akhtar Munir and additional AC Inayatullah to start proceedings. However, they reportedly used delaying tactics.

When assistant commissioner Talat Fahad reached the council hall, district nazim and other treasury members gathered around him and demanded of him to begin proceedings of the session. The treasury members staged a walkout when the officials didn’t accept their demand. Later, the opposition members entered the council hall while making victory signs.
