Ex-Sindh champion Faizan stuns Shahram

KARACHI: Former Sindh champion Mohammad Faizan created a sensation when he humbled Islamabad-based eighth seed Shahram Changezi in the ninth National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Ranking Snooker Cup at the bank’s sports complex on Wednesday.

Faizan, 30, demonstrated awesome form to whip Changezi 4-1 in group H match. He was home 75-35, 21-57, 60-25, 51-28, 82-54;

Playing his second match in the last session of the day, Faizan again came to upset former national champion Mohammad Bilal by stretching him to limits but in the end lost the battle 3-4. Bilal won the duel 59-33, 29-59, 19-59, 64-22, 14-78, 59-25, 60-36.

In another minor upset, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa champion Sharjeel Mehmood sent international and 10th seed Babar Masih packing 4-2 the scores being 86-20, 54-65, 16-77, 61-24, 63-9, 81-8.

Meanwhile, two more century breaks, one each by Mohammad Asif and Abu Sain, were registered on the second day.

The former piled up a break of 111 against Punjab’s Umer Farooq in te second frame while winning the battle straight 112-7, 115-0, 89-29, 74-42. Saim also came up with a break of 101 in the sixth frame by getting the better of Farooq 4-2 (78-1, 42-66, 53-56, 62-30, 109-14, 102-30).
