KARACHI: The provincial sports minister Sardar Mohammad Bakhsh Meher scored a half-century as the Sindh Chief Minister’s XI clinched win under D/L Method against the Sindh Governor’s XI in the Naya Nazimabad Independence Day festival T20 cricket match here the other day.

Batting first at the picturesque Lawai Cricket Stadium, the Chief Minister XI posted a decent 150-6 in their allotted overs with Meher striking eight fours and one six in making 61. The Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah scored 28 with three fours and one six.

Nabeel Hashmi, Fawad Ijaz Khan and Haji Ashraf picked up two wickets apiece.

The Governor XI, in reply, had reached 109-2 in 14 overs before rain prevented further play. Rafiq Ghaziani made an unbeaten 32.

The chief minister later distributed the prizes among top performers — Meher (man-of-the-match) and Nabeel (best bowler) — while the honourable chief minister himself collected the winners’ trophy and the best batsman award from chairman of Naya Nazimabad, Arif Habib, whereas Fawad Ijaz Khan received the runners-up trophy.

Earlier, Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair inaugurated the proceedings while he along with Murad Ali Shah and Arif Habib also cut the Independence Day’s cake.
