MINGORA: Five children suffered injuries when an explosive device blew up at Rangela village in Shamozo area of Barikot tehsil here on Wednesday.

According to Barikot police, schoolchildren aged between 6 and 12 years were playing in a heap of sand of under-construction building near their school at Rangela village of Shamozo area when all of a sudden an explosive device blew up, leaving five children injured.

The injured children were identified as Mohammad Idrees, Nizamuddin, Sanam, Habib and Mohammad Munir.

“The police and security forces reached the spot and have started investigation while the injured children were taken to the Saidu teaching hospital,” said Barikot DSP Syed Zaman Shah.

When contacted, Dr Miangul Aleem of Saidu teaching hospital said that two of the children were critically injured and needed surgery, while the other three received minor injuries.
