BADIN: A teenage girl and her male relative were shot dead by their kinsmen in the name of ‘honour’ in Ali Bakhsh Leghari village near Matli town, 62km from here early on Saturday morning, police said.

Matli DSP Khalid Baloch told Dawn that the police found the bodies of Heer Leghari, 17, and Abbas Ali Leghari, 21, who were close relatives, in a deserted place near the victims’ houses.

He said that a brother of Abbas, Mohib Leghari, might be involved in the double murder as his family was not happy with Abbas’s decision to marry Heer.

The fact that a licensed weapon used in the crime, which was found near the bodies, was issued in the name of Mohib strengthened the suspicions about his involvement in the crime, the police officer said.

However the police were probing all other aspects of the double murder besides the honour killing aspect, he added.

The victims’ bodies were taken to the Matli taluka hospital and later handed over to their heirs after medico-legal formalities.

The police had taken a number of suspects into custody in connection with the double murder during raids in different places.

No FIR was registered till the filing of this report.
