ISLAMABAD: A four-member Pakistan taekwondo team will participate in the WTF World Taek­wondo Championship scheduled to be held from June 24 to 30 at Muju, Korea. The team leave on Wednesday.

The taekwondo athletes participating in the event include Mohammad Fah­e­em, Mohammad Iqbal, Ayesha Noor and Nimra Wasiq.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) said on Wednesday that the main aim of participation in the championship is to help athletes get exposure as well as preparation for the WTF Qualification Tournament for Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics Games.

The world ranking of athletes will also be improved as it has been declared a G-12 event, he said.

He said PTF President retired Lt Col Raja Waseem Ahmed and PTF secretary general Murtaza Hassan Bangash would also proceed with the team to attend the WTF general council/election meeting as well as Asian Taekwondo Union general council/election meeting on June 23. PTF president would also be contesting for the WTF Council Member in the elections.
