RAWALPINDI: The Airport Security Force (ASF) on Sunday foiled an attempt to smuggle two kilogrammes of heroin from Benazir Bhutto International Airport and arrested an Italian national of Pakistani origin.

An ASF official said the check-in of passengers for a Qatar Airways flight was in progress when ASF corporal Mohammad Ashiq got suspicious of a bag during scanning of baggage.

He said a search of the bag led to the recovery of the heroin. The suspect, Ghulam Abbas, 42, a resident of Chakwal, said he had no knowledge of the narcotics lying in his handbag. However, he was detained by the ASF and later handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).

On Friday, another bid to smuggle one kilogramme heroin was foiled by the ANF.

Meanwhile, a teenage motorcyclist was injured critically after being hit by a passenger train.

Police said Sundrus was crossing the track near Rawat when the passenger train coming from Rawalpindi hit him. The injured was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
