The Child Protection Bureau (CPB) on Tuesday said it had recovered a 14-year-old child maid bearing marks of torture on her body from the suburbs of Lahore.

The child was recovered after she ran away from the house of her employer in the city's Muslim Town area.

The girl had been working at the house as a maid for three years, the CPB said.

"She saved her life by running away," the bureau added.

The case has come to light a few months after the story of Tayyaba, a 10-year-old child maid tortured by her employers, made headlines.

Tayyaba, who was allegedly tortured by former additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife, was rescued from his house in Islamabad with visible wounds on Dec 28, 2016.

Earlier on Tuesday, informing the Chief Justice of Pakistan about the progress on Tayyaba's case, Advocate General Islamabad Mian Abdul Rauf had told the court that the case has been sent to the Islamabad High Court and will be heard there.

He further informed the court that a challan against the defendants has been filed and they have been sent notices to appear in court on April 27.

Also, an additional attorney general at the Supreme Court informed a three-member bench headed by the CJP hat the government is working on a bill on the rights of children.

Additional Attorney General Rana Waqar told the bench that the government was discussing the bill with stakeholders and that it would be presented in court soon.

The CJP pointed out that the Domestic Workers (Employment Rights) Act had been presented in Senate in 2013 and nothing came of it.

"This societal menace needs to be abolished and it would be if all children are educated under the constitutional provisions of free education for children," Justice Nisar observed.
