LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) police claimed on Sunday to have killed two robbers allegedly involved in the killing of five policemen.

CIA SP Tariq Mastoi said they received information about the presence of two robbers in a house in Ali Colony Factory Area. He said he constituted a team to arrest the suspected robbers.

He said the police team reached the spot, cordoned off the area and asked the robbers to surrender to which they fired on the personnel.

The SP said after a 15-minute shootout, police entered the house and found two suspected robbers Aamir Shehzad alias Aamri and Ramzan alias Jaani dead.

Mr Mastoi said the suspects were involved in killing five policemen, including Kahna in-charge investigation SI Khalid Virk, Shadbagh SHO Tajamul Butt and Constable Rehmat Ali.

He said the suspects were involved in a number of robbery cases.

He said Aamir was also allegedly involved in killing two Punjab Highway and Patrol police personnel in Kasur.

Police recovered weapons from the house and later shifted the bodies to morgue for investigation.

Some three months ago, he said, SI Khalid Virk and his team conducted a raid at the hideout of Aamir in Kot Aligarh near Kasur. The suspects allegedly killed SI Khalid Virk and managed their escape.

Last year, he said, SI Tajamal Butt and his two friends were travelling by a private car when the two robbers stopped them in Defence’s F-Block. The suspects opened fire on resistance, killing Butt on the spot.
