Former players respond poorly to PCB

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) failed to receive positive response from former cricketers on Wednesday, who were invited by it to advise on improvement of Pakistan cricket.

No prominent cricketer was present in the meeting other than Haroon Rasheed. He had been removed as chief selector last year after Pakistan’s dismal performance in 2015 World Cup and 2016 World Twenty20.

All cricketers, umpires and curators who attended the meeting were PCB employees.

The first leg of the same meeting was held in Karachi which also received weak response from cricketers like Mohsin Khan, Iqbal Qasim and others.

The PCB had decided to take feedback from ex-players after Pakistan’s recent disappointing tours of Australia and New Zealand.

Former players do not attend because they talk about the real facts of declining standard of cricket and measures to be taken for improvement, which PCB high ups are not at all ready to implement as they go against their personal mandate.

Where there is no scope of improvement what is the point of such a large show of a meeting. I think the past players realised this fact and stayed away. On a similar note, I think that is why India is staying away from all bilateral meetings too.

Who listen to them anyway? They did the right thing by staying away, More bureaucracy and red-tape at the PCB, Make every cricketer and fan runway.

Our former players are all talk and only know how to criticize players and current coach on media or talk show. When it comes to some good suggestion they chicken out or run out of ideas.

PCB,you don't know what to do to improve cricket?Many a times these different cricketers gave their suggestions in TV talk shows that invest at domestic level and at gross roots level.Former coach Waqar Younis gave you a bunch of suggestions,Javed Miandad had given his pieces of advice and many other cricketers like IK,Wasim Akram,M.Yousuf have given their suggestions to improve standard of cricket in Pakistan.PCB ,what else do you want? All complain that you don't implement what has told you to do.You always put deaf ears to all the cricketers.

Former players have nothing to contribute. They go on about on talk shows and have opinion on just about everything asked of them. They talk for the sake of talking and nothing substantial to add. Secondly sports is not a democracy where you need opinions from every quarter. Too many cooks will make the dish non edible. There is a reason you have selected a chairman, a board. That's their job to figure out what needs to be done. If you can'[t do it and need someone else's opinion then quit your job and let someone else do it.

Inzamam does a great job with Afghanistan as Head Coach, and you bring him in as a chief selector. Mickey Arthur rarely spends time in Pakistan attending domestic games, so why hire a coach who will only be with you on tours. Coaching is done in between tours, not so much during. PCB only wants free advice from former cricketers and does not want to pay up for their services. Nobody should work for free. First, you have to bring in Inzamam as a Batting Coach, and fire the current batting coach from Zimbabwe. Bring Wasim Akram as full time Bowling Coach. Get rid of the Head Coach position and bring in a Director who replaces Head Coach/Team Manager. Our new Team Manager is over 60 years old.
