Fashion Pakistan Council to promote new designers across 2017

Council cuts down upcoming show to two days to focus resources towards promotion of young designers.

While fashion in Pakistan often faces criticism, the industry has grown to a cultural collaborator, economic multiplier and opportunity portal. Recently, Forbes magazine predicted that the pace with which the South Asian fashion industry is growing, it may soon hit 100 Billion USD in near future.

However, one major issue in the industry is the speed at which fashion designers are multiplying every year. The advent of digital marketing and PR has made it even more difficult for fashion startups and upcoming talent to find space for themselves in the market and get steady clientele.

The Fashion Pakistan Council realized this issue in early 2014, and chose to create a separate platform for young talent so they get a chance to show their mettle on the ramp and be mentored by senior designers. It was through this particular platform that brands like Madiha Raza, Aalish Mansoor and Sameer Sain entered the market to become successes. Some of the bigger names in the fashion industry today like Zaheer Abbas, Sanam Chaudhri and Feeha Jamshed were also all debutantes at various Fashion Pakistan weeks in the past.

This year in Fashion Pakistan Week Spring Summer 17, the council has cut down their show schedule from three days to two so that resources are more efficiently utilized towards the promotion of young designers. The council is also launching FPC scholarships, which will be awarded to deserving students in order to help fund their education and also link them with mentors in the fashion industry to groom their talent.

"Creating a new platform to give young designers or talent a chance is what any fashion council would do" elaborates Deepak Perwani, Chairman of the Fashion Pakistan Council. "Our mandate has always been to promote and foster the growth of Pakistani fashion industry and allow young talent to take center stage so that overall growth is seen at an industry level."

Despite hits and misses, the Fashion Pakistan Council is doing its best to be a platform for showcasing fashion and giving an opportunity to let everyone shine together on their stage.
