FBR lose thriller in KCCA departmental event

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) suffered a heartbreaking defeat by just one wicket against Mah Rose Group in the opening match of the KCCA Inter-department Cricket League at the TMC Ground here on Tuesday.

Batting first, FBR were dismissed for 196 in 44.1 overs. Mohammad Ali struck seven boundaries and one six in scoring 57 from 48 deliveries while Ismail Patel hit 51 with the aid of four boundaries and one six.

Mohammad Taha was Mah Rose Group’s main wicket-taker with figures of 3-28.

Mah Rose Group then got over the line by reaching 198-9 in the 43rd over of their chase after openers Mohammad Usman (48, four fours and two sixes) and Kamran Rehman (39, seven boundaries began with a partnership of 87.

Spinners Kahaf Patel and Syed Faazullah claimed three wickets apiece.

Earlier, KCCA president Prof Ejaz Ahmed Faruqi inaugurated the tournament in a simple but impressive ceremony.

DHA College seal last-ball victory

KARACHI: DHA College clinched a thrilling last-ball victory over Nixor College in their fourth Bilal Bhaty Inter-school/college T20 cricket tournament fixture at the Vital Five Ground here on Tuesday.

Chasing a competitive target of 157, DHA College, who won by two wickets, scored the required 17 runs from the last over with Minhaj hitting the winning run after Bilal Shahid contributed 34 off 31 deliveries with the aid of four boundaries. Off-spinner Vehab Hussain grabbed 3-20.

Earlier, Nixor College posted 156-5. Jam Zain Ali excelled for them by striking five fours and one in making a splendid 65 from only 44 balls, while all-rounder Vehab slammed a 30-ball 31 that included three hits to the fence.
Zain was later adjudged man-of-the-match despite finishing on the losing side.

Losada, Crispo hit trebles

LAHORE: Master/Diamond Paints and Master Paints carved out contrasting victories on the second day of the Hamdan Housing Polo Cup here at the Lahore Polo Club on Wednesday.

Master/Diamond Paints outlasted Barry’s 6-3½. Juan Cruz Losada hammered a hat-trick for the winners while Mir Shoaib and Sufi Farooq Amin hit a goal apiece while George Meyrick and Babar Monnoo scored for Barry’s who had one-and-half goal handicap.

In the other match, Master Paints defeated Habib Bank 7- 6 ½. Andres Crispo slammed in three goals with Ahmed Ali Tiwana (two) and Sufi Amir and Sufi Haris (one each) also getting on the scoresheet for Master Paints while Hissam Ali Hyder (three), Taimur Ali Malik (two) and Adnan Jalil Azam (one) scored for the losers, who had a half-goal handicap.—Sports Reporter

Bahadur tame Colts

KARACHI: Bahadur Club rounded off their league engagements on a winning note registering 48-25 victory over Karachi Colts to emerge group ‘B’ champions and sneak into the semi-final of the Kashmir Day basketball tournament at Arambagh floodlit court on Tuesday evening.

It is pertinent to mention that Bahadur Club remained undefeated in the group having beaten Nishtar Club and One Unit Club in the previous two games.

Amanwal Fayaz turned out to be the pick of the match contributing 21 points as the winners led 26-16 at half time. Fares Wasti and Farooq scored six points apiece.

Faisal Awan was the only player to finish in double figures for the loser with a tally of 10 points. He was assisted by Mujtaba Nazar five and Osama Mohsin four.

Meanwhile, the league matches concludes on Thursday and will be followed by semi-finals and final. —Sports Correspondent

Khizra CC to stage one-day club event

LAHORE: The first Amir Hayat Rokhari Memorial One-day Club Cricket Championship will commence in last week of February in Lahore.

The tournament is being organised by Khizra Cricket Club Lahore to pay tribute to late Rokhari, who was an ex-president of the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA).

Top 32 cricket clubs of Lahore Region will compete in the event. Interested clubs can submit their 20 registered players’ nomination on official letter heads along with entry fee to Abid Hussain, president of Khizra Cricket Club, at the LCCA Ground by Feb 25.—Sports Reporter

PSF annual general body meeting set for March 1

KARACHI: A 10-point agenda has been drawn for the annual general body meeting of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) which is due to take place at the Air Headquarters, Islamabad, on March 1.

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman will chair the meeting.

The agenda among other things includes election of vice-president, awards of trophies of pride of performance, to consider report of activities of last year, to evaluate performance of players and to discuss domestic and international calendar of the year.—Sports Correspondent

Women’s rugby team reaches Laos

LAHORE: A 14-member Pakistan women’s rugby team reached Laos on Wednesday to feature in the Asian 7-a-side Development Rugby Tournament.

The national women team is being led by Azra Farooq while Shakeel Ahmad is coach and Roma Abbas is team manager.

Pakistan will face India, Nepal, Malaysia, Laos, Korea and Thailand in the tournament in Vientiane.—Sports Reporter

Kardar Cup postponed

LAHORE: The Abdul Hafeez Kardar Cup featuring schools from across the country which was scheduled to commence from Wednesday under the banner of the Pakistan Cricket Board has been postponed.

“The event has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. Its new dates will be communicated soon,” a PCB spokesman said while talking to APP here on Wednesday.
