Famous novelist, playwright and short story writer Bano Qudsia passed away in Lahore on Saturday. She was 88.

Ms Qudsia was a towering literary figure and her writings were popular both inside and outside the country. She had been ill for the last several years but her condition deteriorated a week ago owing to multiple complications.

Her son Aseer Ahmed told reporters in front of their residence that her mother passed away at around the time for Maghrib prayers at the Ittefaq Hospital. “What can I say on my mother’s death, perhaps that God has stopped sending great women like my mother,” he said.

Her admirers also remembered her with high praise.

Some were sure her words will ring true for years to come:

Others acknowledged the impact of her writings:

This man recalled reading Bano Qudsia as a lifechanging experience:

Bano Qudsia and Ashfaq Ahmed were remembered as an iconic couple:

Will there ever be another Bano Qudsia?

May she rest in peace.

Why do we not know them in their life time???? Is it because of personal apathy or institutional failure? Perhaps both and many more reasons.

Bano Qudsia was a great woman. I wish and hope that only Ten women like her are enough to change Pakistan's Destiny. Unfortunately one such woman "Banazeer " was assassinated by her own Countrymen .
