The roads in Karachi's Clifton area were flooded with blue and gold colours Sunday morning as Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Karachi Kings' "Karachi Dorega" marathon went underway.

The Kings appear to be gearing up for its first match of the PSL's second season in which they will be facing off against the Peshawar Zalmi at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Feb 10.

The "Karachi Dorega" marathon, aimed at promoting awareness about the health benefits of physical activity, invited participants of all ages and from all walks of life.

Participants gathered at Clifton's Teen Talwar roundabout, where the marathon kicked off.

The crowd was all cheers when it was joined by high-profile political figures and celebrities during the marathon.

Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar and Awami National Party leader Shahi Syed were among marathon attendees.

The mayor appreciated citizens' spirit, saying, "We are all here for Karachi, regardless of our political and religious party affiliations."

A biker group, with multiple members riding heavy bikes, were also an added spectacle at the event.

Slogans such as "Karachi jeetay ga" were chanted as the bikes made their way through the crowd.

Big stars are among the 414 players drafted for the second edition of the PSL.

The list included former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, West Indian stars Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy, ex-Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and England’s ODI and Twenty20 captain Eoin Morgan.

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen will also take part, while the inclusion of Morgan is particularly noteworthy after he withdrew from England’s ongoing tour of Bangladesh over security concerns.

Five teams took part in the inaugural edition of the PSL which was held entirely in Dubai and Sharjah in February 2016.
