QUETTA: In order to eradicate the crippling poliovirus it is important to vaccinate each and every child in Balochistan, said participants in a seminar on Friday.
Speaking at the seminar on the role of local government representatives in the eradication of polio in Quetta, the mayor of Quetta, Dr Kaleemullah Kakar, said that Islam taught people to help one another and therefore every member of society had to join hands to defeat the menace of polio.
“There are certain misconceptions about the immunisation drops and people are expressing their reservations but awareness has to be created by everyone in society regarding the efficacy of the drops,” he said.
“In this regard, the role of the Ulema, teachers, tribal leaders, and political leadership is very important,” Mayor Kakar said, impressing upon the Ulema the need to highlight the importance of immunisation campaigns effectively through their Friday sermons.
