LAHORE: The LPG Association of Pakistan (LPGAP) on Friday voiced concern at efforts of certain large importers of LPG to crowd out their smaller competitors by blocking limited storage capacity at two LPG import terminals at Port Qasim.
In a press statement, the association’s spokesman said certain influential importers were resorting to unfair tactics to block limited storage thereby creating unnecessary hurdles for other importers to bring LPG to Pakistan.
“Such importers are abusing their dominant position by holding the product and not releasing it for several days to create artificial shortage of LPG and make exorbitant profits,” says a press release. It said both Engro Vopak Terminal Limited and Sui Southern Gas Company previously followed a rule, whereby LPG was swapped between importers to accommodate maximum discharge of LPG from vessels.
