Pakistan's Test ranking in danger as NZ set to take on Bangladesh at Christchurch
Dawn Sport Published
January 17, 2017
Pakistan's spot on the ICC Test Rankings may be in danger as New Zealand is poised to overtake the team depending on the outcome of the upcoming Test match against Bangladesh in Christchurch.
New Zealand beat Bangladesh in the first Test in Wellington by 7 wickets propped up by a Kane Williamson quick-fire century.
According to the ICC, if New Zealand wins the Test, it will move one point ahead of Pakistan, which is currently at the no. 5 spot in the rankings.
In case of a draw, the black caps will join Pakistan at 97 points, but will lag by a fraction of a point.
Pakistan recently slipped to the fifth spot on the back of a 3-0 series loss to Australia despite reaching the top spot on the rankings.

Because we paid off ICC to hush up the matter...and fudge the rankings calculations. Simple. (By the way, the score line was 1-3 in England)

Why are we so worked up about fractions of points and whether we are number 5 or number 6 in the list? We know that our performance was poor, and it needs to be improved no matter where we are in the list.

When Pakistan became no.1 it was because the Indian match was canceled. Then in a few weeks india became no. 1
Besides if the teams deliver a thrilling match everyone wins.

@ A Pakistani_Ireland UAE is Pakistan's adopted home ground and pitches are made which suits Pakistan. Stop using this as an excuse, Pakistani players are irresponsible as no-one is asking them questions if they play well. I have been seen same set of players since long time , it feels like there are no new talented players in Pakistan.

At this stage does it matter if we are number 5 or 7. The only positions that matter are 1-3 where we rightly do not belong.
What was the purpose of this post to begin with? Can Pak do anything to change that over the next week? should we be praying for NZ to lose or draw? Maybe Dawn has run out of noteworthy news.

@SaraH -- India have won a World Cup in England and South Africa. India have won a Champions Trophy in England too. India have won Test series in England (1971, 1986 and 2007), SL, West Indies (1970/71, 2006, 2011 and 2016), NZ (1967 and 2009), Zimbabwe, Pakistan (2004) and Bangladesh. India has also drawn a series in South Africa (2010/11) and also drawn a series in Australia (1977/78, 1980/81, 1985/86 and 2003/04). India has done better in Aus, Eng, NZ and SA than other Asian countries. India has won every single ICC trophy - 2 times World Cup winners, 1 time T20 World Cup winner, 2 time Champions Trophy winner (2002 shared, 2013 outright winners) and 6 time Asia Cup winners. India has also won the U-19 World Cup 3 times

@ A Pakistani_Ireland The 2007 ICC World Twenty20 was the inaugural Twenty20 cricket world championship, contested in South Africa from 11 to 24 September 2007. Twelve teams took part in the thirteen-day tournament—the ten Test-playing nations and the finalists of the 2007 WCL Division One tournament: Kenya and Scotland. India won the tournament, beating Pakistan in the final.[2]

@Syed Actually your statement made some commonsense. Rather than competing with others or others games affecting pak, it is better for them to see how they will emerge in top 3. Even top3 means nothing - anyone can beat anyone. Winning consistently against top teams playing quality games will certainly help. Same applies to Ind/Eng/Aus/SA. It is good to focus on their own games rather than worried about going down the ladder when NZ beat Bangladesh etc

That peak was just for 13 days and that too because india westindes last test match was wash out due to rain and pak got to no.1 by luck of rain gods. After that India are no.1 side for the entire year and will remain same in this year as well even if we loose i series in aus or eng because our rating points are far ahead of other teams.
