LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday sought replies from the Punjab government and the services secretary on a petition challenging appointment of Child Protection and Welfare Bureau’s director general.

Representing the petitioner, Advocate Sheraz Zaka argued before the court that appointment of Fatima Sheikh as CP&WB director general had been made in violation of rules as she belonged to the Information Service Group.

Whereas, he said, the rules required appointment of a BS-19 officer of District Management Group (now Pakistan Administrative Service-PAS).

He asked the court to set aside the impugned appointment for being made in violation of rules.

Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard the arguments and issued notices to the authorities concerned for Jan 30.

SC moved: Barrister Zafarullah Khan of the Watan Party has filed an application before the Supreme Court with a request to refer the matter of Panama leaks to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

In his application submitted to the Lahore registry, Mr Khan states that the FBR can properly investigate the matter since it is involved in collecting revenue from offshore companies. He says the apex court has no jurisdiction to deal with revenue cases.

He asks the court to discharge the ongoing proceedings of Panama case and refer it to FBR.
