According to an article published last year in the New England Journal of Medicine, data collected by two researchers over the course of a year in various countries found that, on average, Americans gain about 0.6kg (or about 1.3 pounds) in the days after Christmas. However, in Germany, people gained about 0.8kg (or about 1.8 pounds). According to the researchers, half of this weight was not lost within six months.
