Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday strongly condemned the Federation of International Cricketers Associations (FICA) for its negative advisory on playing cricket in Pakistan.

"FICA has done great disservice to the cause of cricket in general and Pakistan cricket in particular by advising players not to play in the PSL Final in Lahore next March because of “security reasons”," said a release issued by the PCB.

The release went on to say that FICA cited unnamed “expert security consultants” for “updated security advice” that claims Pakistan is “at an extremely elevated state of insecurity.”

"This is a careless and cavalier approach to an issue of great importance," it said adding that the FICA sits thousands of miles away from Pakistan and cannot name even one credible security expert, yet makes a sweeping negative statement about the security situation in Lahore.

FICA’s claim that “westerners and luxury hotels have been attacked” is contrary to the facts on the ground that prove that not a single foreigner or hotel has been attacked in Lahore in the last five years, it said.

Further rebuffing the claims of the federation, PCB said, "FICA’s claim that “targeted attacks” are predicted to continue is belied by the fact that Lahore is the show piece of the government that has secured the services of UK based “safe city” security project."

PCB statement read that the board has recently hosted Kenya, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh (Women), Afghanistan and Malaysian national cricket teams in Lahore and Karachi without any problem. In the case of PSL Final in Lahore for one day, the government has guaranteed protection by over 3,000 army and police personnel in Lahore. PCB will provide armoured buses for travel along with VVIP security protocols.

A group of foreign players including Jonty Rhodes, Brain Lara, Curtly Ambrose, Glenn McGrath, Dean Jones, Mark Butcher, Marvin Atapatu, Herschelle Gibbs, Damien Martyn, Andy Roberts, Danny Morrison, Sanath Jayasuriya, Andrew Symonds, Ajay Jadeja, Robin Smith, Cameron Delport et el are regular visitors to Pakistan on assignment with Pakistan Television and are available to vouchsafe the safety and security of foreign cricketers in the country.

"PSL has already received confirmation from top international players to play in Lahore and PCB is determined to bring cricket home to Pakistan," it concluded.

Never heard this name FICA where are they from and what they have to do with Pakistan's security condition.

Syed Daniyal ahmed Jan 10, 2017 09:05pm

I still remember Cameron Delport being present, in the Gadafi stadium Lahore, for the final of the talent hunt program conducted by the Lahore Qalandars franchise of PSLT20. Everything went smoothly without any incident. So fica needs to visit Pakistan for themselves to see the ground reality.

point of view Jan 10, 2017 09:11pm

PCB is not in a position to dictate internal players. If the players have security concerns, PCB must avoid hosting PSL final in Lahore.

Ali Jan 10, 2017 09:47pm

Good reply, well done!

Masood Hussain Jan 10, 2017 09:56pm

FICA is being influenced by the BCCI who don;t miss a single moment to malign and weaken cricket in Pakistan S.C of India has tried to clean cricket of the political influences somebody should do the same at the international level.

Gazaal Jan 10, 2017 10:01pm

PCB is unnecessarily blaming FICA. Security situation is improving but not good enough for current cricket stars to visit. Work on security and things will change. Mentioning Malaysian or similar teams visited is making mockery of their own argument.

Sarai Alamgir Jan 10, 2017 10:03pm

FICA takes orders from certain boards, we all know who they are. Things are safe in Pak, but certain lobbies don't want good news to be linked with Pak.

Gh Jan 10, 2017 10:14pm

Players intrest comes first. Spat between the boards bodies should wait. Players are human beings and they too have life. No one should be forced to

Ahmad Jan 10, 2017 10:22pm

@Mohammed FICA has contract with many players from countries other than South Asia(Ind,Pak, Ban, Sri and AFG)

CALCUTTA MAN Jan 10, 2017 10:19pm

@Mohammed

FICA represents players' associations of various countries; Indian and Pakistani players are not members, but most others are...

FICA speaks on behalf of all member-cricketers, across countries

lost cause Jan 10, 2017 10:23pm

They usually follow the travel advisories issued by respective nations.

IMran Jan 10, 2017 10:38pm

What else would you expect from FICA and ICC? This is all very political in cricket now.

Prasaddeccani Jan 10, 2017 10:38pm

I am glad that nobody so far stated that BCCI manifests itself in different forms, FICA being one of them :-)

Prasaddeccani Jan 10, 2017 10:39pm

@Syed Daniyal ahmed

What you stated might be correct. However, one should also consider the fact that talent scouting event and PSL finals do not attract attention of antisocial elements to the same extent.

I hope you guys will enjoy a nice PSL finals game in Lahore.

WataNparast Jan 10, 2017 10:47pm

Unfortunately what FICA has said is true.

Sammy Jan 10, 2017 11:28pm

This is such a beautiful reply by the PCB....loved it. I don't believe for a second that FICA paid any security consultants for a report and had that report out in less than a week. I highly doubt they even have the budget for such a report.

GAUR Jan 10, 2017 11:28pm

@Mohammed FICA is international cricketers body minus Indoa and Pakistan.

Salim Khan Jan 11, 2017 03:02am

Even when I am a Pakistani, I fear to come to Pakistan. Such is the dread of terrorism, that seems to be the ever present threat in any city of Pakistan that no one wants to come to Pakistan in such a publicly advertised event. When the event is known and publicized it also attracts terrorists for easy foreign targets. That is players body FICA has given the advisory.

owen Jan 11, 2017 05:12am

@Mohammed google it.

Asif Jan 11, 2017 07:22am

I think FICA is absolutely correct! We are not at in a position of safe guarding the security of our own nationals and the soft targets within let alone foreign nationals!

Bala Jan 11, 2017 07:36am

FICA not responsible for taking instructions from PCB. Rejection of report does not make any change in position of FICA.

point of view Jan 11, 2017 08:54am

@point of view, PCB is not in a position to dictate international players. If the players have security concerns, PCB must avoid hosting PSL final in Lahore.

SOS Jan 11, 2017 12:32pm

FICA is absolutely correct, our politicians need to fix the law and order situation before we can resume International cricket. The issue is that there's a lot of things that need fixing in our country, to boast about providing adequate security to visiting teams and players is bag full of nonsense!!

BABAR-I- Azam Jan 11, 2017 03:55pm

@Bala - being a BCCI native, I'd expect such a tunnel response. The big three, and big two before this have undermined both the ICC and FICA - neither would ever rule against the interests of the big 3..

J Jan 11, 2017 04:22pm

FICA needs to stop being a slave to BCCI

There i said it.

BUDDHIR DHEKI Jan 11, 2017 05:58pm

@J

Indian players are NOT members of FICA

BUDDHIR DHEKI Jan 11, 2017 06:18pm

@J

Indian players are not members of FICA. In fact, Indian players belong to no cricketers' union or association, either at home or abroad. They are paid so well in their regular contracts (not IPL) ...right down to the junior players in the states, that they don't need to belong to unions.

Therefore, your contention that BCCI arm-twists FICA is all fairy tale, as its own players are not associated.

Indian muSLIM Jan 11, 2017 07:55pm

Great reply from PCB board straight on their faces. Nevertheless FICA is a useless association which has done nothing for the sport uplift.
