This woman shaved her head so she could donate her hair to cancer patients

"Having shaved my head, I can empathise with those who do lose their hair because of chemo," shares Nida Hassan Fancy
Updated 10 Dec, 2016

We've all been there; when we go to the salon to get a trim, end up with 2-3 inches of our hair gone and come back home and bawl.

Well, prepare to feel really remorseful because Nida Hassan Fancy shaved her entire head for a good cause — to donate to 'Hair To Help' so they could make wigs for cancer patients.

"The reason why I donated my hair was to pass on the rainbow to someone who needs it more," the mother of two shares with Images.

Props to Nida for doing something so selfless
Props to Nida for doing something so selfless

Initially Nida thought that they won't be able to use her hair because it had been chemically treated as she had dyed it multiple colours, but she says because so much time had passed since she had bleached her hair, the people at the charity organization told her they'll be able to use it.

Wonder if people stare/ask questions?

She shares, "Of course. They stared even when I had rainbow hair! It's never bothered me. We belong to a society where everything is seen as 'different'; I've always been somewhat different in my attitude. Taught myself a long time ago how to be indifferent towards it. Everyone's question so far is 'will you go everywhere like this'?"

"Having shaved my head, I can empathise with those who do lose their hair because of chemo. They can't stop and explain in public that they're not mad to have a bald head but rather unwell. They resort to covering their head, wearing wigs. As much as I feel liberated after shedding the hair, I pray those battling cancer have one less worry: the fear of being judged on their appearance."

If you're thinking of donating your hair to the organization, you can reach them here.

It would have been better is she would have donated her earrings or cut down her visits to the boutiques and beauty parlour and donate for a cause. Shaving head is unfortunately just for publicity.

This should be the last option (or in addition to other) to empathise with unwell people. After one can not contribute through all other options, this is better than doing nothing.

Nonsense, if someone wants to help someone there are many other ways, if their hairs are falling it's not someone pulling her hairs its just by some health problem.

I almost envy her courage. A wonderful lady. A wonderful signal. Who is going to follow the suit. I have heard about another person who shaved his hairs in the background of cancer: Andre Agassi, the once Tennis Champion did it as a gesture of solidarity for his sister, who lost her hairs because of Chemo therapy. Lady Nida Hassan Fancy shaved her hairs for sisters and brothers, she didn´t even know. As mentioned before: I envy her courage. You deserve the Rainbow of happiness, because you have the heart to share it with others.

God bless her. Her hair will make so much difference in someone's life. God will give her hair back in a short time but smiles on the face of a cancer patient will be priceless. We all love you.

@Sab Se Pehle Pakistan, How do you know she did not donate other valuables? The news is about hair donation. Making ridiculous judgement is reflection on perpetual whiners.

What good is to donate your hair to cancer patient, when it has so much hair colour on it. we donate hair in this party of world, but it has to be pure, no chemicals, hair dye etc. I still give thumbs up for the lady who took a gutsy step. taking this gutsy step

Donating hair for cancer patients is a good gesture and worth appreciating. But one does not need to shave her/his head to donate hair. Just cut a decent length from your hair and donate. My two daughters have done this twice . They did not have to shave their heads.

this is a common phenomena in Singapore, every year they do a campaign called hair for hope. I salute for her courage n to those keyboard warriors saying negative things about her, please tell us what you have done for the cancer patient before commenting negatively for those who has done something.

Don't know about Pakistan, but here in North America, if the hair has a smidgen of colour, it will be rejected out-right. Don't forget, the donated hair is used for making wigs for cancer patients. You don't want a cancer patient/survivor to look like a parrot.

Besides many other meaning comments here, one do not have to get head shaved. I have no reason to suspect her intent but it looks more like media stunt. My two daughters donated for the same cause, by just cutting hair short. And no photo sessions.
