9 of our favourite Junaid Jamshed tracks from his singing days

Junaid's songs will always be reminiscent of our childhood
Updated 07 Dec, 2020

Pakistan's pop icon from the 90s is not amongst us anymore.

Singer-turned-evangelist Junaid Jamshed and his wife Nayha Junaid were on board Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-661 on this day last year, which crashed en route to Islamabad from Chitral.

Junaid Jamshed and Nayha were confirmed dead.

Though he put a halt to his music career in 2004 and devoted himself fully to Islam, Junaid's songs will always be reminiscent of our childhood. When we were feeling desolate, he gave us 'Aitebar,' when we were feeling patriotic, he gave us 'Dil Dil Pakistan,' when we had a crush, he gave us, 'Sanwali Saloni,' when we were going through heartbreak, he gave us 'Samjhana,' and the list is endless.

These 9 songs top our favourites from his singing days (we can't stop listening to them on repeat </3):

1) Dil Dil Pakistan

2) Sanwali Saloni

3) Woh Kaun Thi

4) Na Tu Aaegi

5) Goray Rang Ka Zamana

6) Samjhana

7) Chehra

8) Ankhen

9) Aitebar

The real tear-jerker.

@Wasi So if he had quit from Tableeghi Jamat (became disillusioned from them) and simply focused on his business, would you say the same thing: We should respect his decision to quit tableeghi jamaat hence shouldn't listen to his bayan. Not trying to debate, just trying to understand how this works...

How sad! People want to only remember him from his singing and dancing days, Not for his philanthropy, charitable work, or preaching, AFTER he had discarded his partying days and reformed himself into a pious religious figure, living a simple life?? That's a reflection of the shallow and superficial decadent society he was perhaps trying to change after his own awakening!?

To all that say that we shouldnt talk about his music, it was actually his music that made him famous. He was a famous preacher only because we knew him as Junaid Jamshed from Vital Signs. His preaching would attracted people from all walks of life precisely because they have listened to Dil Dil Pakistan. Ignoring that big part of his life would be unfair. It would be like not mentioning Imran Khan's 1992 World Cup victory and his cricketing days because he is now in politics.

Could add plenty more to the list. I have been listening to "Uss Rah Par" nonstop over past two days. Respecting someone's decision has nothing to do with the way you want to remember them. If you want to remember JJ the preacher - please do. And if someone wants to remember JJ the singer - let them, it's their personal choice. @Zain Hasan You nailed it!

He gave up music for a reason, we should respect that. Instead, we should try and do the good things that he he was so committed to such as helping the poor, showing respect for all people, being humble, fearing God, empathy, humanity, etc.

It disappoints me that media is remembering JJ by the one thing that he wanted to forget most and move on. I hope the media will promote the better side of him, the wonderful things he did in life, and many more things that he wanted to do. The success of Dil, Dil Pakistan can never come close to Dil, Dil Insan - the life that he lived. He came to Portland a couple of years back for a fundraiser. He won the respect, hearts and minds of the people and left a long lasting impression. Many young American Muslims, mostly of Pakistani origin, were left speechless as they went over to hug and admire him. We all remember the Maghrib prayers that he led. And no, we are not Mullas or conservatives, Portland is know to be a very liberal city and we will not forget this servant of God for a very, very long time. We are grateful and thankful for his visit to our city know as The City of Roses. The fragrance of care and empathy that he brought, still lives with us. May he rest in peace, amen.

He reflected on his journey to religion very fondly, but never regretted his past singing career, and never asked to shut this chapter, or disowned his fans. Let everyone remember JJ they way they loved, liked and wish to be his last image. No judgement or opinion necessary, this is theway we all remember our loved ones. He was part of a family in 90's, and I am the one who grown up with impatient waiting for his new albums.
