It’s not a privilege to be born rich and famous, says Hrithik Roshan

The Bollywood actor thinks his kids are disadvantaged by his superstar status
06 Dec, 2016

Rich people have problems too, you know.

Hrithik Roshan reminded us of the same in a recent interview where he speaks about how his superstar status doesn't do his kids any favours.

"It’s not a privilege to be born as a rich and famous man’s kid, mostly it’s a disadvantage," he said, according to Filmfare. "You tend to become lazy and complacent and used to luxury."

The Krrish star insists that his kids' privilege instead lies in having a father who has weathered the "ups and downs" of life:

"Where [my sons] Hrehaan and Hridhaan are privileged is in their being born to a father who has experienced ups and downs and acquired a humble sense of life and the world."

He's also confident that he's got parenting skills down pat:

"I make sure they take responsibility for their decisions. I guide them but I don’t stop them. I want their decisions to be their own. I’m there to pick them up. One of our greatest weaknesses is our inability to take strong decisions. I’m making sure they develop that strength," he said.

Guess Hrithik's the kind of dad who dotes on his kids AND his own parenting prowess!

I am rich not because I was born rich , I rejected my inheritance and earned wealth due to my intelligence and smart work ethics.

Really?! This man is delusional. Ask the kid who gets maybe one meal a day what real disadvantage is.

Rathik talks in theoretical terms of parenting his kids as if they are ready to confront a big business deal and needed advice. No! Parenting doesn't come from a book. Let the kids WATCH (not listen) you integrate with them and others, then later hear you negotiate with them and others.

Someone needs to explain this superstar true meaning of a disadvantage. What about kids who are born in poverty and struggle for almost half of their life.

Humble sense of life? I have met the man in person and there is not an inch of humility within him.

Heirhik has touched the most complex subject. How to raise children. There is no best answer irrespective whether born rich or poor. To me one has to let a child to grow according to what his/her full potential (generally unknown). If a child is born poor and in illiterate and closed minded family then I will say bad luck. If born poor but in educated and open minded family then I will say good luck. So many different scenarios. I wish I could explain this to people and government how to do justice with children.

Hrithik did face a lot of issues in life, struggling career of his father Rakesh (it's not easy in cut-throat Bollywood families), then his problems with health at a young age, brain surgery, back surgery, divorce. He's lucky to be born to a father like Rakesh who was a brilliant chartered accountant and a movie producer/distributor. His father alone today is one of biggest land-lords of Maharashtra sitting on 15,000 crore worth of land and building holdings...
