UPPER DIR: Three persons, including two women, were killed and eight others were injured when a vehicle fell into the Panjkora River here on Saturday.

Gandigar police said the vehicle with members of Tableeghi Jamaat on board was going to Sahibabad Markaz, adding when it reached Narhan Khwar it fell into the river, killing three persons and injuring eight others.

The deceased were identified as Bakht Jamala, Said Baha and Samiullah, residents of Almas, Usheri Dara. Police said the injured were shifted to the Wari hospital, where their condition was stated to be out of danger. The injured and deceased belonged to the same Almas village.

Meanwhile, Sheringal police claimed to have recovered illegal weapons from Tangisar area on the night between Friday and Saturday, and arrested two suspects.

SHO Sheringal Gul Fazil Khan told reporters that they received information by their informer that a cache of weapons had been stored in Tangisar area. Following which, he said police launched a search and strike operation, during which, they recovered the weapons. The arms included an LMG, two Kalashnikovs and a mortar shell. He said the weapons were stolen in a house.

The SHO said they had also arrested two suspect persons, adding they were being investigated. He warned that no one would be allowed to keep illegal and unregistered weapons in the area. He said those who had weapons that were not registered should hand them over to police.
