FIDEL Castro died recently. After Russia’s ‘workers Revolution’ and China’s ‘Peasants Revolution’, Castro, along with Che Guevara, brought about a profound change in Cuba by motivating and mobilising the youth and the middle class. In this sense his name can be counted in the line of the legendary Lenin and Mao Zedong.

When the US, with all its military might, expertise and intrigues, failed to destroy the socialist revolution, it tried to eliminate Fidel Castro through CIA.

The confrontation between Cuba and the US was a war of attrition between the two unequals which was won by the weaker.

History has shown that reason, has triumphed over force, and commitment has proved to be more powerful than the gun. This is why the US failed to subdue the leader of a tiny, poor country just 90 miles from its shores in 50 years.

Though Castro is dead, the flame of patriotism, courage and commitment he lit will keep on burning until all vestiges of imperialism are burnt and buried.
