RAWALPINDI: As a part of the National Action Plan (NAP), 777 search and sweep operations were conducted in the Rawalpindi district so far this year against militants and extremists.
During the operations, over 161,754 suspected people were questioned and 649 others, including some Afghan nationals, were detained.
City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi said four types of search and sweep operations were conducted against hardened criminals and extremists.
He said 355 sweep and search operations led by the police and participated by hundreds of police and intelligence personnel were carried out in the district during the period. He said 114,722 individuals were questioned by the police during a door-to-door search campaign.
Of the 114,722 individuals, 375 were detained, he added.
Likewise, the police also carried out 422 search and sweep operations in various parts of the district and questioned 47,032 individuals from January 1 to November 18.
Of the 47,032 individuals, 46,758 were released after being questioned and 274 were detained.
