RAWALPINDI: A man killed his mother by stabbing her and then attempted suicide by stabbing himself multiple times with a broken piece of glass in Satellite Town on Tuesday, the police said.

Mohammad Rehan, 35, was taken to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital with multiple cuts and wounds on his body and is said to be in stable condition.

A murder and attempted suicide case was registered against him and he was taken into police custody.

The accused is an electrician and is said to have been distressed for some time due to not being able to find work. He is said to have fought with his mother, 55-year-old Rukhsana Rashid, on Tuesday.

During the argument, he stabbed his mother with a broken piece of glass and then tried killing himself, the police investigating officer said.

The officer said that in his statement, the suspect has said that he was attempting suicide when his mother had tried to intervene and had been stabbed by accident.

The police said that after a case was registered against him, the accused was moved to the Holy Family Hospital.
