LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday issued the first selection list of candidates admitted to MBBS and BDS programmes in public sector medical and dental colleges of Punjab for the 2016-2017 session.

The last merit of MBBS has been 88.68 and that of the BDS 88.55 per cent, according to a press release issued here on Friday.

The merit has been calculated as per the weightage formula for the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), adding 10pc of matriculation, 40pc of intermediate and 50pc of entrance test marks.

Only those candidates who secured 82pc or above aggregate marks as per the PMDC formula were eligible to apply for admission on open merit basis this year. Applications were received from Oct 3 to 15.

A total of 54,908 candidates appeared in the entrance test this year. Out of these, 12,342 eligible candidates applied for admission against 3,197 open merit (3,022 MBBS + 175 BDS), 61 under-developed districts (49 MBBS + 12 BDS), 76 reserved seats for children of overseas Pakistanis/dual nationality holders (72 MBBS + 4 BDS), and 20 disabled candidates (19 MBBS + 01 BDS) seats available in 17 public sector medical and three dental colleges of the province.

The King Edward Medical University (KEMU), Lahore, remained the top choice of candidates with merit of the institution closing at 92.37pc. The last merit of Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore, is 91.31pc, Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore, 90.79pc, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College, Lahore, 90.42pc, Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore, 90.13pc, Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, Lahore, 90.03pc, Nishtar Medical College, Multan, 89.89pc, Rawalpindi Medical College, Rawalpindi, 89.43pc, Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad, 89.40pc, Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala, 89.25pc, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur, 89.12pc, Sargodha Medical College, Sargodha, 89.06pc, Khawaja Mohammad Safdar Medical College, Sialkot, 88.89pc, Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Gujrat, 88.89pc, Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal, 88.84pc, Sheikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan, 88.76pc and D.G Khan Medical College, D.G Khan, 88.68pc.

For BDS programme, the last merit of de’Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore, is 88.65pc, Nishtar Institute of Dentistry, Multan, 88.59pc and Dental Section Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad, 88.55pc.

For reciprocal seats, the merit of Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, is 89.13pc, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College, Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 88.67pc, Azad Jammu Kashmir Medical College, Muzaffarabad, AJ&K, 88.65pc, Bolan Medical College, Quetta, 88.61pc and Poonch Medical College, Rawlakot, AJ&K, 88.61pc.

For 76 seats reserved for the children of overseas Pakistani/dual nationality holders, the last merit is 87.55pc. A total of 540 candidates applied in that category.

A total of 126 candidates applied for admission against 20 seats reserved for disabled students. They were examined by specialist medical boards constituted under the law.

Out of these, 65 were declared disabled for the purpose of admissions. The last merit in this category is 77.84pc.

For admission against 61 seats reserved for the students of six under-developed districts -- Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Bhakkar, Layyah and D.G Khan -- a total of 829 applications were received.

The last merit of MBBS in this category is: Muzaffargarh 88.47pc, Rajanpur (tribal area) 66.23pc, Rajanpur (settled area) 88.42pc, Lodhran 88.25pc, Bhakkar 87.51pc, Layyah 88.31pc, D.G Khan (tribal area) 85.93pc and D.G Khan (settled area) 88.45pc. The merit of one seat reserved for Cholistan is 82.74pc.

All the lists are available on the UHS website www.uhs.edu.pk.

The selected candidates will be issued call letters by the respective colleges. The MBBS classes in public sector medical colleges will commence on Nov 14.

The second selection list will be displayed on Nov 28.
