LARKANA: A man gunned down his maternal uncle and two other close relatives over a family dispute in Akbar Chandio village near Qambar town on Wednesday. Ghulam Hussain aka Sodho Chandio was arrested after he opened indiscriminate fire at his relatives in their home leaving his maternal uncle, Sha’aban Chandio, dead on the spot and wounding about a dozen other relatives, including two women and an eight-year-old girl. Two of the wounded victims, Noor Mohammed and Mujeebur Rehman, died while being transported to the Chandka Medical College Hospital.
Officials at the Drig police station and the suspect’s relatives told reporters that Sodho Chandio had kidnapped a woman belonging to the Lashari clan about eight months ago to marry her. A few weeks later, his father Nooruddin Chandio and uncle Sha’aban Chandio forced him to restore the woman to her family. However, the discontent within the family persisted over the next few days and Sodho Chandio shot dead his father.
According to reports, Sha’aban Chandio on Wednesday lodged a non-cognizable compliant against Sodho Chandio accusing him of firing shots at his house.
The police picked up the suspect and his brother, Ghulam Ali Chandio, but let them off a little later.
Upon returning from the police station, Sodho Chandio attacked his uncle and other relatives, present with him, with his gun killing three of them and wounding 10 others.
All wounded victims were admitted to the CMCH for treatment while Sodho Chandio was arrested.
