LAHORE: The Lahore High Court chief justice has constituted a five-member larger bench to hear a petition that questions out-of-turn promotions in the high court establishment.

Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah will head the bench with Justice Yawar Ali, Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, Justice Ayesha A Malik and Justice Faisal Zaman Khan as its members.

The larger bench is set to take up the matter on Oct 28.

LHC Deputy Secretary Muhammad Akmal Khan, suspended by the authorities on Aug 17, 2016, had filed the petition.

A single bench had requested the chief justice to form a larger bench to decide the petition filed through Advocate Asmat Kamal Khan.

Mr Khan contended he was subjected to vindictive action for highlighting alleged corruption, out-of-turn promotions and illegal appointments in the court.

He pointed out though he was suspended on the ground of ‘poor’ performance, his name was recommended for honorarium over “dedication to official work”. He said there were at least five officials, including chairman of Committee of Management of the LHC, who were promoted out of turn.

The petitioner asked the court to set aside his suspension and reinstate him. He further asked the court to order audit of the LHC welfare fund.
