KHAIRPUR: A doctor assigned the task of monitoring work of a mobile anti-polio team in a Khairpur area was shot and wounded by four assailants riding motorcycles on Tuesday.

Dr Ghulam Murtaza Lakho, who heads the basic health unit in the Bahar Larik UC, left his office to monitor the working of an anti-polio vaccination team when he was attacked near the Pir Shahbazi area.

The victim was rushed to the Khairpur Civil Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

Khairpur deputy commissioner Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi visited him at the hospital and ascertained details of the incident from him. He issued directives for an inquiry into the attack and arrest of the culprits.A motive behind the attack was yet to be established.
